Genforeningsparken i Aabenraa marks the centenary of the reunification of Denmark and Southern Jutland. The historic building Folkehjemmet and the garden in front of it had great importance for the Danish community during the more than fifty years under German rule. It was the centre for Danish culture and important political assemblies during the reunification process took place here.

By the homecoming of Southern Jutland in 1920 more than 3000 people were gathered in the garden to celebrate the reunification and the visit of the Danish King Christian X. However no traces of the heydays are visible today as the post war planning turned the garden into a parking lot.

Key aspects of the new design for Genforeningsparken are determined by the relation to the surrounding buildings, such as a playground by the library, the assembly area in front of Folkehjem and the setting for the reunification festival in 2020.

Apart from being a memorial, Genforeningsparken is a contemporary, active and cozy public space that improves the overall diversity and connectivity of Aabenraa.
