GRÅBRØDRE PASSAGE

Gråbrødre Passage transforms an overlooked backstreet in central Odense into a vibrant temporary public space. Through a combination of lightweight wooden structures, urban greenery and artistic installations, the project explores how small-scale interventions can create new places to meet, pause and experience the city – while testing new possibilities for the future city centre.

URBAN POWER developed the spatial concept and design for Odense Municipality, transforming the passage into an experimental urban space where architecture, landscape and art come together.
A continuous three-dimensional wooden grid provides a unifying identity, creating intimate spaces for seating, exhibitions, planting and outdoor activities while maintaining access through the passage. The modular structure allows different functions to be integrated within a simple architectural framework.
Art installations, mirrored surfaces and a small moss garden introduce unexpected experiences and references to the landscape that existed before the city. Together, these elements turn an ordinary passage into a sequence of distinctive urban spaces.
As a temporary intervention, the project also serves as a testing ground, gathering experiences and insights to inform the future development of Odense’s city centre.
